our providers and training
Exceptional Expectations is committed to employing quality individuals who have a passion for children with special needs. We feel that it is the provider, the provider's attitude and experience that makes for a successful home therapy program. Habilitation and respite services will be provided in a positive atmosphere of enthusiasm, love and professionalism. Exceptional Expectations has providers of all ages and backgrounds. Many providers are students attending ASU or other educational institutions. These students are studying education, special education, psychology, etc. Other providers are instructional assistants in a school district working in a special education environment. We will strive to educate our providers with the necessary and appropriate skills to ensure that each child is receiving the most appropriate services.
Providers attend a mandatory 6 hour training prior to working with families. In this training they learn about autism spectrum disorders, its characteristics, treatment approaches ( ABA, Greenspan and visual strategies), and behavior management strategies.
In addition, providers are required to attend training once a quarter. The provider chooses what training they would like to attend based on the child(ren) they are working with and what would be most beneficial to the child(ren). Trainings include, but are not limited to: setting up a program notebook, keeping data, toilet training, fine motor, sensory needs, oral motor, Basics of ABA, PECS, behavior management techniques, increasing language opportunities in all children, stranger danger, Greeenspan Floortime, RDI, beginning sign language and social play. These trainings are not "certified" trainings, but are designed based on experiences and research of the Exceptional Expectation's staff.
Parents are also encouraged to attend the trainings. Training schedules are on the provider link.
continuing support
Exceptional Expectations believes strongly in community. Each quarter we sponsor a "family event" to meet the families, allow other families to meet and support each other and to network with others in the community. These events may include the zoo, a picnic, hikes, pizza night etc.
Exceptional Expectations offers quarterly meetings for families and providers to update goals and programs and assess progress and difficulties.
Exceptional Expectations has a resource library "EE Library" which is full of therapy materials for children of all skill levels. A list of the available resources is available by contacting the office or you many simply come by and take a look during a scheduled visit. Materials are checked out on a monthly basis. This a a great way of exposing the children to many new materials, games, toys etc. without spending a dime. Often children master skills so quickly, they use many items for only days.
